If you are engaged, you and your partner should make an appointment with Rabbi Gilbert to discuss the process of a wedding according to Jewish faith.
At this meeting a form to authorise the marriage with the office of Chief Rabbi will be completed, and you will be required to provide birth certificates and both parents Ketubah (marriage document) from both partners’ parents’. Civil guidance will be specified, as will all the legal requirements to have a wedding in England according to The Marriage Act 1949. Information regarding the ceremony will also be given, and there will be time for an open discussion to ask any questions that you may require answering.
It is a requirement that a Chatan and Kallah have traditional instruction before the wedding. This will be arranged at a mutually convenient time and will ensure that the bride and groom fully understand the values of Judaism that are represented by various parts of the wedding ceremony, and are committed to implement these values in their married life. On the road to your wedding, you will also meet with several people who are dedicated to assist you in your preparations and who will do everything to ensure that your wedding be truly Jewish and that your marriage will be strong and lasting.
Etz Chaim provides both brides and bridegrooms with an opportunity to know and understand what Judaism has to say about marriage. This is done through a series of tutorial sessions with Dayan Shalom and Rikki Kupperman. In these sessions, they will explain in a friendly and informed way the values and principles that lie in the basis of the Jewish marriage, and will happily share with you their own experience of a ‘veteran’ married couple.
Etz Chaim offers a beautiful venue for both the wedding ceremony including Chuppah and the party. However, if you prefer another venue, you still can have your wedding conducted by Etz Chaim, if the venue has the facilities for serving Kosher food and is supervised by Leeds Beth Din.
The preparations to the wedding are fluid and dynamic, and we are dedicated to being at your side every phase of the way.
