Introduction

Etz Chaim are Supporters of the EcoJudaism Initiative.

This promotes the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment across the Jewish Community in accordance with the principles of the Jewish faith.

Judaism understands us not as masters, but as trustees, of G-d’s creation. We have a primary responsibility to care for the earth and leave it to our children in a state of wholeness and health.

EcoJudaism’s primary aim is to engage all Synagogues to register for, and participate in The Environmental Audit. This focuses on 5 areas of shul life - Management; Prayer and Teaching; Lifestyle; Land, Building and Consumables; and Community and Global Engagement.

This is a unique initiative which spans the whole Jewish community with rabbinic leadership from four denominations of Judaism. In addition, EcoJudaism aligns to the Chief Rabbi’s and United Synagogue’s Dorot initiative, which is a strategy to reduce our environmental impact.

Eco Advice and Thoughts

We have moved from the feature in the weekly shul newsletter to a new monthly EcoJudaism newsletter. This contains a mixture of news from Etz Chaim, news from the wider EcoJudaism programme, information on developments in the area of climate change and the environment more generally, and advice and reflections.

The newsletter will be available as a PDF attachment, weblink, and as a hard copy in shul.

If you would be interested in helping to put together the monthly newsletter, please contact Simon Phillips at simonphillips90@hotmail.com.
